Cute and Creepy Spider Cupcakes

Make a batch of spider cupcakes. If you know someone who just loves spiders, then throw them a spider themed birthday party! These are all some fun ideas below on how to make your own.

Cute Green Radioactive Spider Cupcakes

Green Spider Cupcakes

Cupcake Decorations and Supplies Used

  • White frosting with purple icing gel
  • Green Apple Licorice Belts (for legs)
  • Green Spice Drops/Gum Drops (for body)
  • Almond slices (for fangs)

Want to know how to make a set of these? All you need are the above supplies! First, use the white frosting and add purple icing gel to dye it or you can use whatever other color you prefer.

Next, place your Spice Drop in the center. Grab the licorice and cut into thin, long strings with a sharp knife on a cutting board. The individual legs should be about an inch long (give or take).

Arrange the legs around your Spice Drop by inserting at the base and then forming a small arch and insert the other end of the “leg” into your frosting to give some dimension.

Add the almond slices to the front to make them look like spider fangs.

Fondant Black Widow Spider

Cupcake Decorations and Supplies Used

  • White Frosting
  • Black and Red Fondant
  • Black Decorating Gel

First, frost your cupcake. Next, you will need to find a clipart image of a Black Widow spider you like or an image from online that you can trace. Size it and trace and then cut out the body only. Use this as a template to make your fondant body of the spider. Roll out the black fondant and use a carving tool to do it.

Do the same with the red fondant and place the red mark on top of your Black Widow body and press together lightly. After you are finished use the black decorating gel to draw on your spider legs and you are done! Use your image that you printed out or traced to help guide you to draw on the legs.

As another option you could simply use black frosting instead of the gel if you’d like (tip #2 or 3 should work fine).

Snicker Spider Cupcakes

Cupcake Decorations and Supplies Used

  • Mini Snickers (for body)
  • Pretzel Sticks (for legs)
  • Tootsie Rolls (as adhesive)
  • Red Frosting (for beady eyes)
  • Frosting tip #2 or 3
  • Orange frosting (web)
  • Black Decorating gel (web)

This one was a lot of fun to make but it took a little time because of the detail on legs and arrange them. You can make all the spiders the night before you actually bake the cupcakes and store them in the fridge and then just pop them over your cupcakes when you are finished frosting them. If you are throwing a big Halloween party, a set of these will really go over with guests.

To make the spider web on the cupcake you will first frost it and then draw some circles over the cupcake in black. Then use a sharp tool or knife to pull down each circle. Repeat until you have it just as you want it.

How to Make the Snicker Spider (Above)

Start by preparing the legs. Use the pretzel sticks and cut one stick into quarters (4 pieces). It’s okay if the ends are not perfect because they will be covered anyway.
Warm up a Tootsie Roll in the microwave to the point where it is soft and pliable, roughly 10 seconds or so.

Dip one end of a prezel into the Tootsie Roll to coat the end generously and then attach it to the other end and press together working the Tootsie Roll around both parts.

Set aside your leg to cool down on wax paper, repeat until you have all the sets you need for each cupcake. You will need a set of 8 for each cupcake.

Once all the legs are ready, grab a mini Snicker and use more warm Tootsie Roll to dip your leg into it again. Attach your leg to the Snicker and press firmly to secure it. Repeat until you have all the legs on securely and allow time to dry.

It’s really important to keep them cool because if your spider warms up the Tootsie Rolls will melt and the legs may break. Keep cool until you are ready to set them out.

If you don’t have the time to do the work with the pretzels and Tootsie Roll then you can simply lay your Snicker on top of the cupcake and add the pretzels (laying down flat).

Cupcake Decorations and Supplies Used

  • White Chocolate Chips (eyes)
  • Pretzel Sticks (for legs)
  • Tootsie Rolls (as adhesive)
  • White Frosting and Brown Frosting Gel

Add brown frosting gel to white to make the brown frosting for the body and frost your cupcake. Warm up a Tootsie roll so it is warm and pliable and use it as adhesive to glue the ends of the pretzels together, then set them aside to cool down.

Once the pretzel legs are securely together and cooled down insert them into your cupcake. Add the white chocolate chips for the eyes.

This is a jumbo cupcake but you can make them smaller as well! Simply adjust the leg size as needed.
